Roof Access Ladder Safety

Extension posts mount permanently to the top two rungs of any alaco 560 series fixed ladder and 775 series ships ladder providing a positive hand hold that enables users to enter or exit openings in an upright and balanced position.

To protect the worker exiting a ladder osha requires a 42 inch high grab bar extension above the access level or landing platform at the top of the ladder. Per osha 1910 23 d 4 the side rails of through or sidestep ladders must extend 42 inches above the top of the access level or landing platform served by the ladder. Cage begins 7 from bottom of ladder. Cages and walk thru handrails extend 42 above landing surface.

Rope grabs horizontal lifelines may be used on ladders greater than 20 feet in length in lieu of a cage in certain circumstances.

Cages have flared bottom opening for easy entry. Parapet ladders must have an access level at the roof if the parapet is cut to permit passage through it. All roof access ladder systems can be equipped with a removable ladder door to protect against unauthorized use providing additional public safety.
